My mission @ www.bradmersereau.com is to keep the memory of my sister, Laura, alive with addiction recovery and prevention resources. Laura died 4 months and 6 days after her 46th birthday on June 13, 1999, from medical complications due to her unsuccessful 25-year struggle with alcoholism. Joseph A. Califano, Jr. documents through his Columbia University CASA research documents that 25% of our nation’s college youth are abusing or are clinically addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. He also asserts if a child reaches age 21 without drinking or drugging, there is virtually no chance for future addiction. Our Sobriety Pledge webpage was recently featured in a local KOIN News Now segment. I believe with 122 Sobriety Pledges from children who commit to live their dreams without booze or drugs that we are honoring Laura’s memory by potentially saving lives. KOIN news reporter Carla Castano said my passion and dedication to making Laura’s memory matter made her cry.
Since its May 2006 website launch, our website has received 15,000 visitors and 60,000 webpage views. 380 anonymous participants collectively celebrate 5325 sober years on our Sobriety Anniversary webpage. Our macro-goal by 2025 is to document 20,000 sober years, and I am confident we will achieve this ambitious objective. A Today Show interview about our sobriety-advocacy work could facilitate hundreds of new Sobriety Pledges and thousands of new Sobriety Anniversary years. I hope your producers will seriously consider my request. Thank you for your time and attention.
