I am responding because of Secretary Of State Dennis Richardson’s latest email and am heartened by this welcome leadership change in Oregon’s Child Welfare system. Since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, we offer the opportunity for all vulnerable children to honor mind, body, and spirit without drugs or alcohol before 21 at Laura’s Pledge. Joseph A Califano Jr.’s research and advocacy explained in How To Raise A Drug-Free Kid suggests that children who take our Sobriety Pledge significantly reduce the possibility of the addiction which consumes 40 million Americans. This link also contains 6 effective drug and/or alcohol-refusal skills. Our successful goal for the past decade has been to expand Sobriety Pledges by at least 25 each year.
